Patient Information · Surgery Prep

Surgery preparation starts before the operating room date.

Patients preparing for urologic surgery should understand records, medications, blood thinners, anesthesia clearance, fasting, transportation, recovery support, catheter or stent expectations, and follow-up appointments.

Common preparation steps

Preoperative labs, medical clearance, medication review, imaging review, consent discussion, and anesthesia instructions may be needed depending on the procedure.

Questions to ask

Ask whether a catheter, stent, drain, overnight stay, pathology report, or staged procedure is expected. Also ask what symptoms after surgery should trigger a call.
